Sudbury Women’s Centre, now officially recognized as SWC, is excited to announce a new chapter in its evolution and commitment to advancing its strategic goals.
Beginning in September 2025, SWC will enter into a formal partnership with Spark Employment Services, a collaboration designed to strengthen both organizations’ impact in the community and build long-term leadership capacity. SWC is committed to fostering a community where it supports all women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals. With a vision that Every Individual Matters, SWC provides access to basic needs, resources, services, and education through a compassionate, inclusive, empowering, and well-being-focused community approach. SWC is “a place to start” for those seeking support and growth.
As part of this partnership, Chantal Makela, current CEO of Spark Employment Services, will be stepping into the role of Interim Executive Director at SWC. While both organizations will continue to operate independently, this collaboration is focused on driving innovation, enhancing service excellence, and fostering stronger community connections, all while supporting the leadership growth of both SWC and Spark.
“This partnership marks an exciting and strategic step forward for SWC. By working collaboratively with Spark Employment Services, we are investing in leadership, strengthening our organizational infrastructure, and creating new possibilities for our clients and community. We are confident that Chantal Makela’s leadership will support SWC’s continued growth and innovation as we move into this next chapter.” — Melissa Pitfield, Board Chair, SWC
“This partnership represents a meaningful opportunity to build stronger, more connected support systems in our community. By combining the strengths of SWC and Spark Employment Services, we’re not only enhancing our capacity to serve, but also deepening our commitment to innovation, equity, and leadership development. I’m honoured to step into this interim role at SWC and excited to foster growth and impact alongside a team equally dedicated to creating lasting change in Greater Sudbury.” — Chantal Makela, CEO of Spark Employment Services and Interim Executive Director, SWC
“Spark is proud to engage in this partnership with SWC, a respected organization with deep roots in the Sudbury community. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to responsive, people-centered service, and we believe it will strengthen both organizations. We fully support Chantal Makela in this new dual role, knowing she will bring the same integrity and vision to SWC that she continues to bring to Spark.” — James Burke, Board Chair, Spark Employment Services
Together, SWC and Spark Employment Services are embracing this new chapter with enthusiasm and a shared commitment to supporting clients and strengthening the Greater Sudbury community.
