When the client first connected with Employment Specialist last summer, they were very new to the city, had no one to support and were facing significant challenges, including unemployment and unstable housing, food, often staying temporarily with others. Client was receiving OW assistance though, but that was not enough for survival in a new city. Despite these barriers, the client remained motivated to improve their well-being.

An individualized action plan was developed to support the client’s immediate and long-term goals. To address transportation barriers, ES provided bus passes and tickets, enabling the client to attend appointments, access services, and actively participate in job search activities. The client was also referred to GED programming, as they expressed interest in completing their education.

Throughout their time in the program, the client stayed engaged and maintained communication with ES and kept providing updates on their situation. Additionally, they were provided with job search resources, community housing information, and short-term training opportunities to strengthen their employability. The client consistently demonstrated determination and commitment to improving their circumstances.

Recently, the client shared exciting news, they have successfully secured employment and obtained stable housing. This marks a significant milestone in their journey, reflecting their resilience, dedication, and willingness to utilize available supports.

The client has now successfully transitioned into the workforce and is on a positive path toward long-term stability and independence

My name is Garth Walters, and this is my story. A success story. There’s still more to go within my story.

But to be successful, you have to take a chance and do different things. I started the program in May with Ms. Kim and everybody, I did the workshops I did the work that had to be done. It looked like it was going to be productive.

I had a counselor who took a chance, had faith pushed me, pushed me forward. And had my back. With that being said, I then went into a situation where I started Kelly Lake Building Supplies in August and with some obstacles, I got over them.

But with the help of Chiemeka, I actually was able to achieve a lot of success, which turned out for me to be a blessing. So right now, I’m on the way I’m able to provide for myself. I’m standing on my own.

I was on Ontario works. I’m off Ontario works, and now my success story is only going to be looking to get to be fine. So, I’m thankful that I was here and able to have the people at Spark be behind me, push me and have a chance and have faith in me.

Syanne came to Spark Employment Services after leaving her previous role in the retail industry. She expressed a strong interest in transitioning into an office-based position; however, due to limited experience, she faced challenges securing opportunities in administrative or receptionist roles.

At Spark, Syanne participated in our workshops and training sessions, where she worked closely with our Job Coaches to strengthen her skills, build confidence, and present her best self to employers. Together, they enhanced her résumé and cover letter, and completed thorough interview preparation.

Following this, her Job Developer assisted her in finding a suitable placement that would allow her to gain hands-on experience through a job trial. During the trial, Syanne excelled and demonstrated strong commitment and capability. Her employer was highly impressed, and what began as a temporary opportunity resulted in Syanne being hired permanently.

We are proud of Syanne’s growth and success, and we are thrilled to have supported her in achieving her career goals. Her journey reflects the power of dedication, skill-building, and the right support system—core values we uphold at Spark Employment Services.

We were facing ongoing labour shortages and challenges finding reliable workers for a physically demanding industry. Recruiting was difficult, and we struggled to find the right place to look for employees.

Participating in the EDGE+ program has truly changed my life. I feel more confident, hopeful, and accomplished because of the support I received. The program helped me build self-awareness, recognize what I was doing well, and understand where I could improve in my employment journey.

Through the workshops and guidance from the team, I gained strength, confidence, and a renewed sense of excitement for my future. The compassion, empathy, and genuine care shown by the staff made a tremendous difference. They created a supportive, family-like environment where I always felt heard and encouraged.

I am so grateful for this experience and highly recommend the EDGE+ program to others in the community. This program gave me the tools, clarity, and confidence I needed — and I know it will continue making a positive difference in many other lives as well.

I came to Spark Employment because I needed assistance, and they truly delivered. I first attended their Summer Spark event, which was welcoming and made me feel part of the community.
