Spark Employment Services continues its commitment to transforming lives through the delivery of the highly impactful Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) program.
Designed to uplift adults across Ontario, the LBS program equips participants with essential communication, numeracy, interpersonal, and digital skills, enabling them to achieve their goals and unlock new opportunities.
The LBS program serves a diverse range of learners, placing special emphasis on unemployed adults, including those receiving income support. It’s also open to employed Ontarians who seek to enhance their literacy and basic skills to maintain or elevate their work-related competencies. The program stands as a pillar of support for individuals aiming to transition to employment, pursue higher education, engage in apprenticeships, re-enter secondary school, or gain greater independence.
“At Spark Employment Services, we understand that continuous learning is the catalyst for personal and professional growth. Our LBS program embodies our commitment to equipping individuals with the tools they need to thrive,” said Ginette Comeau-Roy, Training and Skills Development Manager at Spark Employment Services. “From interactive workshops and cutting-edge e-learning options to an array of specialized courses, our offerings are designed to cater to unique goals and ambitions.”
The repertoire of workshops and courses within the LBS program showcases Spark Employment Services’ dedication to holistic development. Participants have the opportunity to engage in Microsoft Office Workplace Essentials training, Customer Service and Retail training, Financial Literacy training, PowerSkills training, Public Speaking and Workplace Communication training, GED preparation, and an array of enriching options.
“Everyone deserves access to help with literacy and other basic skills so they can find a job they can be proud of,” said Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. “Our government is proud to invest in Spark Employment programs to provide life-changing support to those who need it most so they can build better lives for themselves and their families.”
For individuals navigating the journey towards their General Educational Development (GED®) certification, an important update is pertinent. As of May 3rd, 2024, Pearson VUE GED Testing Service (GEDTS) will conclude GED® testing operations in Canada. However, the prevailing Canadian version of the GED® will remain accessible until that date, offering a valuable pathway for attaining a high school equivalency certificate in Ontario.
Moreover, adult learners can continue to avail themselves of Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) opportunities through school boards to work towards the coveted Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Education and TVO ILC hold promise for prospective avenues of growth.
For those committed to pursuing their GED®, timely registration for the GED® by January 31, 2024, is of utmost importance. Spark Employment Services extends an invitation to all interested individuals to enroll in the GED Preparation course, a pivotal step towards educational accomplishment and personal enrichment.
